Newcastle United 2-0 Athletic Club: Joe Buck reaction
Newcastle United injury news: Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes, Will Osula & co injury latest.
However, Eddie Howe left St James’ Park with a couple of fresh injury issues to deal with, including a setback for Anthony Gordon. Gordon was substituted before half-time with an injury, whilst Will Osula was withdrawn from the squad before kick-off, again through injury.
Having also had to deal with an illness bug that has swept across the dressing room, Howe will be desperate to have these players available to him as soon as possible, particularly with a huge clash against Brentford to come in the Premier League this weekend.
Here, we take a look at Newcastle United’s current injury list and when those sidelined players could be back in action:
Newcastle United injury news
Bruno Guimaraes - illness
Guimaraes started the win over Athletic Club, but did so in a week where he had been suffering with illness. Speaking afterwards, Guimaraes said: “For me, it was like something was holding me with 10kg on my back.
“For this club, I will do everything. I started feeling ill the day before we played West Ham.”
Guimaraes will be monitored over the next couple of days to see whether he is fit enough to feature on Sunday.
Estimated return date = 09/11/25 v Brentford (a)

Anthony Gordon - hip injury
A hip injury ended Gordon’s match prematurely on Wednesday night as he was withdrawn just a few minutes before half-time. Gordon had been suffering with the injury at the London Stadium on Sunday, but speaking after the Athletic Club victory, Howe couldn’t provide a detailed insight into the winger’s problem: “I've not spoke to him and I haven't really had a full rundown from the medical team,” Howe claimed.
“It seems like a recurrence of his hip injury that has been plaguing him in recent weeks. So we'll assess that and see what damage is done.”
Estimated return date = TBC
Will Osula - ankle injury
Osula was withdrawn from Wednesday night’s squad just minutes before the two teams took to the pitch to take part in their warm-ups. An ankle injury, one that Osula has been managing over the last few weeks, given as the reason for his withdrawal.
Estimated return date = 09/11/25 v Brentford (a)
Tino Livramento - knee injury
Livramento suffered a knee injury against Arsenal in September and an eight week timescale on his return was pencilled in by the club. Livramento has returned to work on the grass and whilst he still faces a few more weeks on the sidelines, there is hope that he can return to action just after the next international break.
Yoane Wissa - knee injury
Wissa has been sidelined with a PCL injury ever since his move from Brentford on deadline day. He is yet to feature for the Magpies but could make his long awaited debut just after the international break.
Estimated return date = 22/11/25 v Manchester City (h)
Harrison Ashby - thigh injury
Ashby has not been training with the first-team squad due to a thigh injury but no estimate has been given on his return date.
