I wouldn't swap Danny for any player in the world' - Hurzeler

Fabian Hurzeler says he would not swap Danny Welbeck “for any player in the world”.

But he was guarded on whether he had heard from Thomas Tuchel about an England call for his striker.

Tuchel named his next squad on Friday amid increasing suggestions that Welbeck could be involved.

The striker and his colleagues have sights firmly on Premier League action at rivals Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Their challenges at Selhurst Park will include handling Palace No.9 Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Asked whether he would swap Welbeck for Mateta, Hurzeler told his press conference: “I think I wouldn’t swap Danny for any player in the world.

“Of course the media always try to reward him for the goal and that is very important.

“But I try to judge him on his personality.

“How important he is for us as a player, as a person.

“Like I always try to emphasise, he is as great connector off the pitch.

“He is a great leader off the pitch. He is a great role model.

“That is why we are very pleased he is here and I think he is in outstanding shape.

“So, to answer your question, no I wouldn’t change.”

Hurzeler did not give such a direct answer to a question over whether he had spoken to Tuchel.

He replied: "We will see it on Friday. These are things we should not discus in public."

Hurzeler added it was more important to focus on good training sessions here and the Palace game.
