BOSTON — While the Celtics started slow against the Wizards, they came away with a much-needed 136-107 victory Wednesday at TD Garden. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak as the Celtics improved to 4-5 on the season.
Josh Minott was everywhere, scoring a career-high 21 points, making Wednesday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.
It was a stellar night for Minott, who finished shooting 8-for-12 from the field, including 3-for-6 on 3-pointers. He also added five rebounds on the night. Minott’s pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter were sneakily important as the Celtics found themselves down double-digits to the Wizards to start the night.
Minott, 22, has settled in nicely in a starting role for the Celtics, bringing size and athleticism for the group. He’s enjoyed a career-best year where he’s injected life into the Celtics. It was more of the same Wednesday as Minott was seemingly everywhere, dunking multiple high-flying alley-oops from his teammates.
The Celtics really needed the win Wednesday over Washington. They let the loss to the Jazz slip away last time out, though there was some controversy involved. Regardless, the C’s got their get-right game as they dominated the Wizards following the first quarter. Boston was down 12 points early only to put up a crooked score by the final buzzer.
Minott will look to continue being a high-level contributor for the Celtics. While the scoring opportunities likely won’t be there every night, he can soar for rebounds and make hustle plays like he has during his short time in Boston. The former Timberwolves wing has a chance to make an impact for the Celtics even beyond just this season if he keeps up his level of play.
