November 6 – Newcastle United have announced that Chief Commercial Officer Peter Silverstone has been placed on gardening leave following a three-year stint at the English Premier League side.

Silverstone, who joined from the OneFootball website in 2022 after a long spell at Arsenal, is set to take over as Juventus’ Chief Business Officer once his gardening period concludes.

The departure is the latest in a string of changes to the Newcastle hierarchy. Recently, David Hopkinson was appointed as CEO following the departure of Darren Eales’ for health-related issues.

There has also been somewhat of a revolving door at the Sporting Director position, with Dan Ashworth, Paul Mitchell and now Ross Wilson taking on the role since the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund’s takeover in 2021 – the latter arriving from Nottingham Forest in recent months.

Newcastle’s ownership group wants to push the club into Europe’s elite, and the foundation for that success begins in the boardroom. Constant changes have stalled some areas of the project, with commercial growth one of the key areas of potential gain that has been somewhat neglected.

Plans are afoot for a new stadium with a capacity of over 65,000 and a new training ground to jettison the club into the upper echelons of European football. However, stability at an executive level must come first.
