FPL Focus: Why GW11 is the time to play a chip

Before we head into the third international break of 2025/26, Gameweek 11 is shaping up to be a massive one for the 20 Premier League clubs, and millions of Fantasy Premier League managers across the globe.

Following our 10th successive victory and eighth clean sheet on the spin in all competitions, our next test takes us to the Stadium of Light and a fixture against newly-promoted Sunderland.

GABI and dec DELIVER

Last weekend saw us maintain our advantage at the summit of the Premier League table, against another side freshly back in the top-flight, Burnley. Our 2-0 win at Turf Moor saw Viktor Gyokeres (£9.0m) and Declan Rice (£6.8m) each head home in the first half, with Declan claiming an excellent 13-point haul to take him to a total of 63 so far this season.

Though Declan's price has bumped from £6.5m to £6.8m since the start of the campaign, his 17.3% ownership is showing his unshakable value.

Another clean sheet saw Gabriel (£6.6m) punch in another 12 points, meaning our No. 6 now averages a gargantuan 11 points over the past Gameweek. Big Gabi has blanked just twice this season heading into GW11, and only Manchester City’s ultra-premium Erling Haaland (£14.8m) has more points in the entire game at this stage. Haaland and Gabriel are the Premier League’s only players to have hit the 80-point barrier, closely followed by Bournemouth talisman Antoine Semenyo (£8.1m) on 75.

Gunners remarkably still occupy four of the league’s seven highest individual points totals, with Gabriel and Rice joined by Jurrien Timber (£6.1m) and Riccardo Calafiori (£5.8m). Jurrien has 66 points in 10 Gameweeks, while Richy boasts a healthy 60.

SURPRISE SUNDERLAND STARS

Focusing on Saturday’s opponents, Regis Le Bris’ hosts have enjoyed a superb start to life back in the Premier League, and sit in fourth place while maintaining an unbeaten home record that Mikel Arteta’s men will be trying to extinguish. Many of the Black Cats squad have rapidly become ideal budget selections in FPL, with millions bolstering their sides with adequately-priced talent - many of whom arrived in England this summer.

Only one goalkeeper has registered a higher FPL points total at this stage of 2025/26 than David Raya (£5.8m), and that is this weekend’s opposite number Robin Roefs (£4.7m). The Dutchman is still owned by just 7% of managers and has racked up a total of 54, including two double-figure hauls and two Gameweeks with eight points.

Reuniting with the Gunners for the first time since ending his seven-year spell at Emirates Stadium is captain Granit Xhaka (£5.1m). Owned by just 5.3% of bosses, Xhaka broke his Sunderland duck during Monday’s draw with Everton, helping him to a double-digit haul.

Elsewhere, long-throw and set-piece specialist Nordi Mukiele is available for just £4.2m, an incredibly ideal budget selection - albeit with an increasingly difficult upcoming fixture schedule for Sunderland. Striker Wilson Isidor (£5.6m) has four league goals since promotion, and can be snapped up at a far lower rate than many lesser-performing forwards.

TIME TO BE SHORT-SIGHTED?

As we enter GW11, a reminder that FPL are handing two of each chip to every manager this season: Wildcard, Free Hit, Bench Boost and Triple Captain. These must be used for the first time by the season’s halfway point in GW19, before they are reset for the second half of the campaign. With that said, is now the time to hold the long-term plans, and go all-in?

With many managers unsatisfied with their starts, Gameweeks 12 and 13 have emerged among the FPL community as popular chip-playing rounds. Free Hit is being earmarked as an option with the late-November and early-December fixtures in mind and key players being targeted. But if you're thinking about using the Wildcard chip soon, this weekend could be the time for more risks, more fun, and to use your remaining transfers.

This weekend, if we turn back to the fixture difficulty algorithm, there are five clubs with matches rated at 2: West Ham United and Burnley (albeit facing one another at the London Stadium), as well as Everton at home to Fulham, Chelsea hosting Wolves, and Nottingham Forest at home to Leeds United. Our visit to Sunderland, initially handed a 2 rating, has been upgraded to 3 due to the Black Cats’ terrific start.

An overview of the most effective players from these sides shows the three highest FPL performers from across the quintet of ‘easier’ GW11 fixtures are Chelsea duo Moises Caicedo (58 points) and Joao Pedro (52 points), plus Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye (52 points).

Having added attacking returns to his game, Caicedo’s ownership has multiplied almost fivefold in just two-and-a-half months, seeing his price rocket from £5.5m to £6.0m. Now owned by over 20% of managers, the midfielder remains a very strong budget option. If there’s a time to pounce for Pedro, it’s now, as he broke his goalless run with the winner last Saturday against Tottenham Hotspur, and with the £7.4m striker ready to face winless Wolves at Stamford Bridge.

As for Ndiaye, a team news update from Everton will be required first, having sustained a blow after netting the Toffees’ opening goal against Sunderland. He can be snapped up for just £6.5m, but alternative options are likely to be West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen (£7.7m) if a forward space needs filling, or Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, just £5.3m, who leads his side’s season points total and is a regular DefCon contributor.

Don’t forget to make all the changes you need to your Fantasy squad by this Saturday at 11am UK time!
