Fabrizio Romano makes Federico Chiesa transfer claim:“I can guarantee”

Federico Chiesa continues to be namechecked as a potential player who could be on the move in the January transfer window.

Despite an undeniably superior start to his Liverpool career compared to his underwhelming first season, Federico Chiesa largely continues to languish on the substitutes bench, unable to convince Arne Slot that he merits consistent first-team involvement despite delivering whenever called upon.

The contrast between Chiesa’s output and his playing time has become increasingly stark.

Across all competitions, the picture is no less compelling. Chiesa has accumulated 335 minutes of football this season, producing two goals and three assists.

His introduction from the bench has repeatedly altered fixtures in Liverpool’s favor.

Against Bournemouth in August, he converted a crucial volley in the 88th minute to give the Reds the win.

Most recently, his assist for Cody Gakpo’s equaliser against Manchester United demonstrated his ability to influence matches within minutes of entering play.

Having accumulated just 110 minutes across seven Premier League appearances this season, the 27-year-old has remarkably managed to score two goals and provide one assist—statistics that place him in the 99th percentile of Premier League attacking players in terms of efficiency.

With the 2026 World Cup approaching, Chiesa faces pressure to secure regular club football to maintain his place in Gennaro Gattuso’s Italy squad. Recent international breaks have seen him left in Merseyside rather than released for country duty.

Now Fabrizio Romano, speaking on the Here We Go podcast, has revealed that while Chiesa wants to fight for his spot at Liverpool – the Italian journalist can “guarantee” that Italian clubs will try loan him in January:

“From what I’m aware, the desire of Federico is still to stay at Liverpool, still to fight for his place at Liverpool, and still to be part of the Arne Slot squad until the end of the season,” he said.

“Obviously, he would love to play more, but he understands the moment there are other players in front of him, and so Chiesa is accepting this kind of situation.”

“But what I can guarantee is that, as I said already here on our podcast, I think Italian clubs will try in January to get Federico Chiesa on loan until the very final days.”

It remains to be seen if Chiesa would be tempted in a World Cup year and whether the Anfield club feel they can do without the Italy international.
