Jacksonville Jaguars GM discusses how newly acquired Jakobi Meyers can improve team

The Jacksonvile Jaguars made a splash at an eventful NFL trade deadline by acquiring WR Jakobi Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders.

Jacksonville sent a 4th rounder and 6th rounder for 2026 to Las Vegas in order to make the deal happen, as per Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Meyers presents a welcome addition to a Jaguars squad that has been hampered by injuries at the WR position. Rookie Travis Hunter has been placed on IR, while Dyami Brown and last year’s first round pick Brian Thomas Jr. are also dealing with injury concerns.

And Jacksonville general manager James Gladstone feels positive about a particular strength of Meyers which the seventh year pro will now bring to the table for the 5-3 Jags.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how his skill set fits within the system,” Gladstone said as per ESPN’s Michael DiRocco.

“I think from afar it does. You think about where we’re at in terms of volume of drops, what’s his superpower? It’s not dropping the football, right? So, you just take it from the surface level, it seems fitting.”

It can be easy to see why Meyers’ pass catching abilities have stood out to Gladstone. As per ESPN, Jacksonville as a team has the most drops in the NFL with 19. Fortunately for the Jaguars, dropping the ball isn’t something that Meyers does much of.

The 28 year old hasn’t dropped a catch more than twice throughout an entire season in the now seven years he’s been in the league. And overall, Meyers has only dropped a pass 11 times across the 98 games he has played so far in his career.

Well, it seems that the Jaguars may have found themselves a real catch in Meyers.
