'I was due one': Humble Dan Burn spoke about his magnificent headed goal at full-time - he'd…

**Dan Burn scored one of, if not the greatest, headed goals I've ever seen last night, and that was a sentiment backed up by many as the Newcastle United defender somehow put bend on his headed effort to open the scoring against Athletic Bilbao.**

The 6'7" defender scored a fantastic headed effort at Wembley on 16th March this year, setting Newcastle on course to lift their first domestic trophy in 70 years. That was a magnificent headed goal worthy of the occasion.

Yet, somehow, this one was even better. In a move from the training ground, Burn peeled away from his marker and ran around the back of the crowd of players to meet Kieran Trippier's deep-floated free-kick with full force, bending the ball into the far post, leaving Spain's No. 1 goalkeeper, Unai Simon, completely flat-footed.

So, how did Dan Burn describe the goal at full-time when speaking to TNT Sports? A 'good header'.

Dan Burn hadn't seen his goal back before doing his post-match interview

------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Big Dan Burn's defence, he did reveal at the end of the interview that he hadn't actually seen the goal back, so he wasn't fully aware of how good it was, but he admitted that he felt he was due a goal.

> “I have been due one for a while.“When the ball came in, I decided I was going to head it as hard as I could; luckily, it went in the far corner, so I was happy with it.“We’d been working on it. We knew we’d have a bit of space around the back.

> “It was a good header.”

Dan Burn probably wanted a do-over on the interview after seeing how good his goal actually was

Burn then admitted he was going to get it up on his phone when he got into the dressing room.

We wonder if he wanted to come back out to do the interview again so he could bask in the glow of his personal glory.

Also, I just want to give a shout-out to Mark Gideon from our NUFC WhatsApp group, who coined "Bend It Like Burn" immediately following the goal. Sorry, Shay Given, he beat you by a good 40 minutes, mate. His lawyers will speak to your lawyers.
