Chelsea hoping to appoint transfer guru

Chelsea are hoping to appoint the man who was responsible for bringing the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Man é and Alisson Becker to Liverpool.

They are in advanced talks with Dave Fellows, former director of recruitment and scouting at Liverpool, who worked with Jurgen Klopp, with his time at the club coinciding with them winning both the Champions League and the Premier League, whilst building a squad equipped to challenge for all the major honours in the game.

The 65-year old left Liverpool in October 2024, but it is now envisaged that he could perform a similar role at Stamford Bridge, with his focus likely to be on scouting and football development.

He would not replace anybody at the club. Instead it is anticipated that he would work with joint sporting directors Paul Winstenley and Laurence Stewart and also collaborate with Joe Shields and Sam Jewell, who currently head up Chelsea’s recruitment team.

Arguably Fellows’ greatest coup was to persuade Klopp to sign Salah over his first choice, Julian Brandt, who has enjoyed a good career with Borussia Dortmund but without hitting the heights of the Egyptian.
