According to a report from Defensa Central, Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso is considering making a tactical change ahead of Sunday’s La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano, with Fran Garcia potentially replacing Alvaro Carreras in the starting line-up.
Carreras has been a regular fixture this season, but Alonso is believed to be weighing up the option of resting him for the trip to Vallecas.
The reasoning goes beyond rotation alone, as Garcia’s familiarity with the tight pitch dimensions at Rayo Vallecano’s stadium and his understanding of the atmosphere could give Madrid an edge.
Having previously represented Rayo Vallecano, the 26-year-old knows what it takes to perform under the pressure of their passionate fans.
Alonso’s final decision is expected on Saturday, but reports suggest there is a higher-than-usual chance of seeing Garcia back in the starting XI.
Not a regular starter despite impressing
It must be noted that despite limited playing time, Garcia has handled his time on the bench with maturity.

As the report outlines, “Fran Garcia is handling his time on the bench very well, because he’s used to this role at Real Madrid.”
Despite starting at the FIFA Club World Cup and delivering an impressive performance, he has remained realistic about his position in the squad hierarchy.
As such, the left-back continues to train hard and maintain top physical condition, staying ready for whenever the opportunity arises.
It is worth noting that Garcia’s last start for Real Madrid came against Kairat Almaty in late September.
So far this season, he has featured in only four matches, with just two starts to his name.
A return this weekend could therefore serve as both a tactical adjustment and a personal boost for a player eager to prove his worth once again in white.
