The 2025 NFL trade deadline saw one of the Buffalo Bills' rivals for the AFC's top seed, the Indianapolis Colts, make an all-in move while Buffalo stood pat.
The Colts sent shockwaves around the league when the 7-2 side sent two first-round picks and receiver AD Mitchell to the New York Jets for two-time first-team All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner.

Last year, the receiver-needy Bills shelled out a future third-round pick for Amari Cooper. There would be no such move this season by longtime general manager Brandon Beane. With the AFC looking wide open, Bills' star quarterback Josh Allen was asked midweek if he thinks fans are going to be frustrated with the 6-2 team's lack of activity.

“Just media narratives, I guess," Allen said, avoiding the bait. "I don’t know. But again, we feel confident with who we got in our in our facility."
"I know I can figure maybe the outside perspective of people aren’t too happy. But again, I trust Beane. I trust the players on this roster. We’re going to continue to keep getting better each and every week, and that’s our focus.”

Buffalo is riding high off a decisive 28-21 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, a fifth straight regular-season victory for Allen and company over Patrick Mahomes (despite an 0-4 playoff record against him).
The Bills reportedly sniffed around the market for receivers and defensive players. Buffalo could certainly have used another pass rusher behind stars Greg Rousseau and Joey Bosa, both of whom took down Mahomes last week.

Buffalo's depth on the interior of the defensive line isn't great either. Behind Jordan Phillips, both Daquan Jones and rookie second-round pick TJ Sanders are out injured.
"The trade deadline is hard. What is the fit? What is their mental capacity?" Beane reflected. "You see talented players that have been in systems for years and it took them a little time to get going, but now they're rolling. That doesn't mean you can drop them right into your system and they pick up right where they left off."

"Unfortunately, it takes two to tango, and we tried on quite a few," he added. "A lot was, 'We're not moving them.' And some, we ran into a couple teams in our division (who) were trading and couldn't get a lot of interest there."

"We're 6-2, and I've seen that [go] to the Super Bowl a couple times. I've seen us be in AFC Championship games. You don't get to the AFC Championship games without having a championship roster. And I know what that looks like . . . I do believe we can win a championship with this roster."
