Just in: 'Insane' manager now frontrunner for Wolves job

Wolves are searching for a new manager to replace Vitor Pereira, and journalist Liam Keen has now confirmed that Rob Edwards can be considered the frontrunner.

GIVEMESPORT sources previously confirmed that Edwards was one of the candidates to take over from Pereira at Molineux, with the Middlesbrough manager having a release clause in his contract. Edwards has been doing a fine job with the North East outfit as they remain in contention for the automatic promotion places in the Championship.

Pereira was sacked as Wolves boss with the Wanderers sitting in 20th position in the Premier League table. Despite signing a new deal earlier in the season, Wolves pulled the trigger with results worsening, and they are still searching for their first victory of the campaign, with Pereira now relieved of his duties.

Reporting on X, Keen has confirmed that Middlesbrough manager Edwards is now considered the frontrunner for the Wolves job to become their new head coach. The Midlands outfit are drawing up a small shortlist of candidates, as they continue discussions as to who is best to take over at Molineux.

Edwards, described as 'insane' by former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, previously spent four years at Molineux during his playing career, and has even spent time at the club as their under-18 coach.

GIVEMESPORT sources confirmed earlier this month that Gary O'Neil was in advanced talks to become the new Wolves boss, but he pulled out of the race to return to the club.

It still remains unclear who is going to be in charge, but Edwards now appears to be the frontrunner. Interestingly, Wolves are still drawing up a shortlist, perhaps in case Edwards decides to pull out of the running like O'Neil did. There might still be complications over paying his release clause in order to prise him away from Middlesbrough, so it's certainly not a foregone conclusion just yet.
