Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell says NBA 2K troll motivated him before 46-point effort

The Cleveland Cavaliers are once again one of the most formidable teams in the Eastern Conference just a few weeks into the NBA season, and while Donovan Mitchell is still clearly a top player in the league the veteran guard had a little extra motivation during Wednesday night’s win.

Mitchell and the Cavaliers erupted for 132 points as a team en route to their 11-point win over the Philadelphia 76ers, but it was the former Utah Jazz star that owned the night after he personally dropped 46 points against Tyrese Maxey and Co.

Donovan Mitchell on his 46-point outburst:

"This kid pissed me off today. I was playing 2K. I told him too I was like wait just wait. And he just called me washed up, he called me a bunch of things but I love it. He saying he ain't seen a highlight from me in a minute and I just… pic.twitter.com/HbS1PkMWwT

Mitchell revealed after the game that he was online playing video games, particularly NBA 2K prior to the Sixers matchup, and that a conversation with a troll had him using those words as motivation during the game against Philadelphia.

“This kid pissed me off today,” Mitchell joked with reporters after the game. “I was playing 2K. I told him too I was like wait just wait. And he just called me washed up, he called me a bunch of things but I love it.

“He saying he ain’t seen a highlight from me in a minute and I just told him alright we’ll see. This game was for that kid or grown man whoever that was so I appreciate you. I told him I’d give him a shoutout too.”

This season, Mitchell is averaging over 31.9 points per game while shooting 45.5 percent from three-point range, which has the Cavaliers sitting at 5-3 early in their campaign.
