Dallas Mavericks star Cooper Flagg struggles with losing since joining NBA

Cooper Flagg was one of the biggest NBA prospects in recent years before being selected by the Dallas Mavericks in June’s 2025 NBA Draft, and while the franchise is surely happy to have him there is certainly a bit of a learning curve for the former Duke star as he begins to take on basketball’s best players.

The Mavericks haven’t exactly gotten off to the start that they had hoped for this season after losing six of their first eight games in Flagg’s debut campaign. And while the Maine prodigy knows that it’s all part of a learning curve, Flagg definitely isn’t used to this kind of losing at such a high level.

“For me, it’s the most I’ve lost since … you know, I think ever,” Flagg said following Wednesday night’s loss against the New Orleans Pelicans.

While Flagg is slowly gaining momentum personally with each NBA performance, the former Duke Blue Devils standout is still only averaging over 14 points per game this season while the Mavericks have lost their six matchups by an average of 12 points.

Jason Kidd’s team certainly needs more production from the rest of the team’s stars as well, but if Flagg is going to live up to the hype of being the number one overall pick he’s definitely going to need to drop more points than what he’s been giving recently.
