Andy Robertson lauds Liverpool fans after what they did against Real Madrid in Champions League win

Andy Robertson has praised Liverpool’s fans for how much they spurred the Reds’ first-team squad on in their Champions League win against Real Madrid.

Anfield was rocking for almost every minute of the tie, with Arne Slot’s men eventually leaving the game as 1-0 winners.

A lot of this was down to the sheer willpower that the Reds’ players showed, which proved that the team from last season is still within them.

However, now that Slot is slowly piecing together his best starting XI, things should start to fall into place.

And, even though Liverpool’s first-team squad were the ones who deserved praise, Robertson chose to take time after the game and thank fans for their support.

Anfield is a fortress for Liverpool, especially when their fans are in good form.

Several professional players, such as Wojciech Szczesny, have said that Anfield is the best stadium they’ve ever played in, with the atmosphere being second-to-none.

You’ll Never Walk Alone is always belted out, but the fact that the crowd got even louder after Liverpool scored proves how much the club means to them.

And, when the players are in need of a boost, they can always rely on the crowd to give them one, with Robertson admitting that he and Florian Wirtz were left in awe of the noise that was emerging from the stadium.

“They [the crowd] made an outstanding noise,” Robertson said to This is Anfield.

“I think just think after we scored, I think maybe Florian was down on the ground and the noise they made, I think the lads were just kind of, looking around and thought ‘yeah this is what we’re playing in, these are the games you want to be a part of.’

“That’s what these fans can do and that’s what this club can do, so there was a real special atmosphere tonight and we’re going to need that all throughout the season.”

Liverpool will need every ounce of support possible from their travelling fans on Sunday

Although Liverpool have only just beaten two tough opponents in Aston Villa and Real Madrid, this Sunday, they’re straight back into it.

Liverpool’s recent Premier League form has been poor, and if they hadn’t beaten the Villans, some serious questions would’ve needed to be asked.

Fortunately for Slot and his men, they delivered, and they even managed to do so against Real.

Sunday’s game is against Manchester City, who have been notoriously hard for the Reds to break down in the past.

And, with the form that Erling Haaland is in, it feels like this could be one of their biggest tests of the season.

This is why, no matter how small the group of away fans travelling to the Etihad on Sunday is, they’ll need to belt out as much noise as possible to spur their team on.

If they can even produce half of the volume they did against Los Blancos on Tuesday, it’s hard to see how Liverpool will lose.
