Analyst Believes Recent Trade Was A ‘Massive Win’ For Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are using their Week 10 bye to reshape their roster ahead of the stretch run.

The organization made two notable acquisitions before the NFL trade deadline.

Dallas acquired linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals and later made a more substantial move by adding defensive tackle Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets.

Analyst R.J. Ochoa recently made a bold statement about the latter trade.

“I think it’s a massive win for the future of the Cowboys, to be clear. The Cowboys have really been struggling as a franchise since that 2023 Wild Card loss to Green Bay. This finally feels like picking themselves up and dusting themselves off and committing to some sort of plan. They finally appear again to be taking something seriously, which is a breath of fresh air for this franchise,” Ochoa said.

Williams brings the interior presence that defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus has been missing in his system.

He earned All-Pro honors in 2022 after posting 55 combined tackles, 12.0 sacks and 28 quarterback hits for New York.

His production declined over the next two seasons, totaling 11.5 sacks during that span, and through eight games in 2025, Williams has one sack and three quarterback hits.

His contract structure played a significant role in the trade.

Williams is signed through 2027, but his remaining guarantees are minimal.

That gives the Cowboys financial flexibility if they need to make adjustments moving forward.

Dallas ranks 31st in total defense this season, making the need for immediate upgrades clear.

Williams should provide stability in the trenches, but the organization will have to address his contract situation at some point to maintain long-term roster balance.
