Champions League: Team of the Round for Gameweek 4

The latest gamweek of Champions League football is now in the books. Who made it into our team of the week?

Players from Liverpool, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal will feature in this list – before we begin, can you guess who they are?

Chelsea are the one English club not to have a player selected but Alejandro Garnacho made a good case for inclusion after sparing the Blues’ blushes vs Qarabag with his second half equaliser in their 2-2 away draw in Azerbaijan.

GK: Mark Flekken

Mark Flekken’s goal was under heavy siege during Bayer Leverkusen’s trip to Benfica, but he didn’t let a single shot hit the back of the net. In total, he saved six shots on target as Leverkusen picked up a 1-0 away win.

RB: Kieran Trippier

Many questioned Kieran Trippier’s age this season, but he proved he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level of the game. Newcastle United brushed Athletic Bilbao aside by a score of 2-0, with the former Burnley man picking up an assist along the way.

CB: Derrick Luckassen

Pafos FC caused a major shock when they overcame La Liga outfit Villarreal on Wednesday evening, winning by a score of 1-0.

Derrick Luckassen scored the only goal of the game and provided a monolithic defensive presence to secure a clean sheet.

CB: Micky van de Ven

There were a few other candidates for the second centre-back slot in this XI, but we couldn’t overlook Micky van de Ven for selection.

Not only did he score the best goal of the round with a surging run from his own half, he also helped his team to keep a clean sheet along the way.

LB: Dan Burn

Another player who certainly wasn’t pegged for Champions League success, Dan Burn has made a habit of surprising people throughout his career.

He scored the opening goal of the game and managed to keep Bilbao quiet throughout the proceedings.

DM: Joao Palhinha

Joao Palhinha is looking like a phenomenal signing for Tottenham Hotspur so far this season.

His talents were on full display against FC Copenhagen, as he effectively shut them out and scored a goal to boot.
