MIAMI, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- A large fire engulfed the home of Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, causing heavy damage, officials said Thursday. No injuries were reported.
Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Victoria Byrd told reporters that first responders received a report at about 4:30 a.m. EST Thursday of a residential house fire. More than 20 units responded to combat the fire, which grew to the height of nearby trees.
"Due to the privacy wall and a lot of the tree cover, it was very difficult to access, with only one point of entry," Byrd said. "The men and women from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue were able to extinguish this fire and doe the best job that they could.
"We also entailed protecting all surrounding homes so there were no other structures incorporated into this fire. It remained as a single-family home [fire]."
The Heat, who lost to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday in Denver, did not respond to a request for comment about the fire. They will host the Charlotte Hornets at 8 p.m. Thursday in Miami.
