And he has wished him well after a major hip operation.
Zamora, an Albion lower-division legend who went on to star in the Premier League and earn international honours, has been back with the club coaching the strikers.
They include Welbeck, who could be named in the England squad for two World Cup qualifiers.
Albion boss Hurzeler said: “The only thing that I can say about this relationship is that it's quite intense, so they have a lot of exchange.
“They do a lot of finishing together when they are outside on the pitch.
“They have a lot of talks. They have a very trustful relationship so I think that Bobby definitely also plays a big part in this development and has a big impact on how he's performing at the moment.”
Zamora’s playing career was ended by a hip injury which ruled him out of the promotion run-in after rejoining the Seagulls for the 2015-16 season.
He had suffered hip problems for several years.
Hurzeler said: “Bobby had surgery, so we wish all the best, a good recovery.
“He had some bad consequence, I think, from his great career where he score a lot of course, so he had to repair think his hip.
“So first of all, get well soon.”
