Middlesbrough boss emerges as number one target for Wolves - report

Sheffield United, Leeds United and FA Cup - The YP FootballTalk Podcast

Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards has reportedly emerged as the main target for managerless Wolverhampton Wanderers.

An array of names have been circulated as potential successors, as is always the case when an axe is wielded, but speculation regarding Edwards has been constant.

The 42-year-old has overseen a strong start to the Championship campaign since taking over at the Riverside in the summer.

His stock has soared and Wolves, who he represented as a player and led as interim boss in 2016, appear to have taken notice.

According to The Telegraph, Edwards is Wolves’ ‘number one target’ as they look to install a new manager.

It is believed the cub are set to make an official approach for the Boro boss, who was dismissed by Luton Town earlier this year.

Wolves are thought to be hoping Edwards’ prior history with the club tempts him into making a return.

After Middlesbrough’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Tuesday (November 4), Edwards said: “It’s exactly the same, nothing has changed.

“As I keep on saying, it’s my wife and my daughter that are keeping me abreast of it all, I’ve not paid any attention to it at all myself.

“I’m just concentrating on my job here at Middlesbrough. That’s absolutely my only focus, and I’m really pleased with what we’ve delivered over the last couple of days.

“It’s been a difficult turnaround for everyone. I’m really pleased with everyone’s focus. Hopefully, you can clearly see that my mind has only been on this.”

Since leaving his coaching role at Wolves in the summer of 2017, Edwards has managed AFC Telford United, England Under-16s, Forest Green Roevrs, Watford, Luton and Middlesbrough.
