Luka Doncic’s all-around dominance leads Lakers’ comeback vs. Spurs

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to collect wins despite the ongoing absence of LeBron James, who is expected to return toward the end of November. On Wednesday night, Los Angeles extended its winning streak to five games with a home victory over Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs, fueled by a decisive fourth-quarter surge.

The Lakers entered the final period trailing by eight, but outscored San Antonio 30–20 behind the playmaking, scoring and late-game composure of Luka Doncic. The All-NBA guard delivered another standout performance, finishing with 35 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds. He also added five steals and two blocks, impacting the game on both ends and repeatedly disrupting San Antonio’s young backcourt.

With Austin Reaves sidelined due to right groin soreness, Deandre Ayton stepped up as the Lakers’ secondary option. Ayton recorded a double-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, continuing his strong early-season play and providing much-needed interior stability. Rui Hachimura and Marcus Smart were the only other Lakers to reach double figures, combining for 32 points in complementary roles.

In a matchup ultimately decided by two points, turnovers proved to be the separating factor. Los Angeles finished with just 12 turnovers compared to San Antonio’s 17, creating crucial extra possessions in a tightly contested game. The Lakers capitalized on those opportunities, particularly in the final minutes, to secure the win.

With the victory, Los Angeles improves to 7–2. The Lakers will now have two days off before traveling to face the Atlanta Hawks. The team hopes to have Reaves back in the lineup as it pursues a sixth straight win and continues navigating its schedule without James.
