Knicks fans thought O.G. Anunoby had one of the greatest games in NBA history because of a viral fake post

The New York Knicks steamrolled the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night, improving to 5-3 and maintaining their perfect home record via a 137-114 win at Madison Square Garden.

If you were looking for highlights on social media, then you might have seen a historic stat line attributed to Knicks forward OG Anunoby.

Fans have long known Anunoby as one of the NBA's top wing defenders, and he did average a career-high 18 points per game last season as the Knicks reached the Eastern Conference Finals. But a viral social media post claimed that Anunoby transcended against the Timberwolves, with a 60-point, 32-rebound, 14-stock outburst at the Garden.

However, one quick look at the actual, real-life box score demonstrates that while Anunoby did play well against Minnesota, he did not quite put up these figures.

OG Anunoby tonight:

60 points

32 rebounds

8 steals

6 blocks

22-25 FG

Anunoby on Wednesday scored 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting while hauling in eight rebounds and recording two steals — an impressive evening, for sure. But the fake post on X, which has garnered in excess of one million views as of Thursday morning, is going to sow some confusion on and off the app.

"There’s gonna be at least 3 people showing up to work tm asking if anyone saw the og 60 ball," one person wrote on X.

"The 60 points had me for a sec until I read the rebounds," another user said.

"I can't believe you made me look up the box score," wrote another. "Need to check on the definition of gullible while I'm at it."

Some Knicks fans played into the humor generated by the fake post, even while others definitely had to head to the NBA or ESPN app to verify the box score.

It goes to show that Knicks hype may be real — but Anunoby dropping a 60-30 game was not.
