Five words Sean Dyche said about Marcelo Bielsa in 2020 - Daniel Farke must remind his Leeds United squad (opinion)

Daniel Farke goes up against Sean Dyche on Sunday as Leeds take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

It is a significant game in the Premier League relegation battle with Leeds sitting 16th on 11 points as Forest trail behind in 19th on just six points.

Daniel Farke is under pressure following a 3-0 loss at Brighton last time out, and as he embarks on a challenging period at Leeds, the German must take heed of what Dyche said about Marcelo Bielsa.

The important advice hidden in Sean Dyche’s defence of Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United

Back in December 2020, Bielsa faced criticism for his daring style of football, with pundits accusing the Argentine of putting style over substance when it comes to his intense, pressing philosophy.

Dyche defended the South American and argued that he obviously plays this method to get results – not just to entertain – saying: “I’m sure the manager is well aware that it has to be about results. I think he sees his way of doing things being the most effective way of getting results. Most managers do think like that.

“I’m pretty sure Bielsa is not just thinking about their style, he’ll be well versed in the game knowing whatever style it is, you have to find results.”

Those final five words need to be ringing around the head of Farke as he faces a crucial juncture in his Leeds career.

Daniel Farke has a lot to prove at Leeds United as a Premier League manager

The 49ers were already considering a change before the season kicked off amid doubts over the German’s previous spells in the Premier League with Norwich, where he finished 20th in the 2019/20 campaign, and was then sacked after just 11 games of the 2021/22 season with his side bottom.

There are many question marks at Leeds, including doubts over Dominic Calvert-Lewin and a dilemma over who to select between Pascal Struijk and Jaka Bijol.

However Farke chooses to address these issues, those aforementioned five words need to be at the forefront of his thinking – with just under a third of the season already gone.
