Raiders predicted to replace Jakobi Meyers with do-it-all WR compared to Jaxon Smith-Njigba

The Las Vegas Raiders have a problem at wide receiver, both now and in the future.

The Raiders traded away their one proven wideout in Jakobi Meyers, who was shipped to the Jacksonville Jaguars right before the trade deadline.

That leaves Las Vegas with guys like Tre Tucker, who is hardly a No. 1 option, and unproven rookies Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton, neither of whom have shown anything this season.

Long story short: the cupboard is bare outside of superstar tight end Brock Bowers, who is going to need more help down the line.

Knowing all that, wide receiver is shaping up to be a major need for the Raiders in 2026, and it's a need they should address at some point in the NFL draft.

The Sporting News' Vinnie Iyer predicts adding a wide receiver will be the first thing the Raiders do in next year's draft.

He projects Las Vegas will add Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, who Iyer compares to Seattle Seahawks wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba, with the No. 7 overall pick.

"The Raiders need to invest more in wide receiver after trading Jakobi Meyers to the Jaguars vs. choosing to extend him," Iyer explained. "Tyson can turn into a smooth go-to guy all over the field in the Jaxon Smith-Njigba vein."

This would be a controversial pick, depending on who's on the board when the Raiders are on the clock.

That's not to say Tyson won't warrant this high of a selection, but the Raiders also desperately need to draft a quarterback after failing to do so in 2025, and with quarterback Geno Smith struggling mightily.

That said, if there is no quarterback worthy in this spot, Tyson would be one heck of a consolation prize for Las Vegas.

The Arizona State star is a great route-runner and is a threat at all three levels of the field. He has fantastic yards after catch ability but can also be a deep threat. That makes Tyson a big play waiting to happen whenever the ball comes his way.

His versatility is attractive as well, as Tyson is capable of lining up in the slot and on the boundary, which makes him a true chess piece for an offensive coordinator.

The Raiders will have a slew of ways they can go with their first-round pick in 2026, and wide receiver is certainly one of those plausible avenues. As such, it's possible we'll see Tyson in the Silver and Black in 2026.
