Anthony Gordon joined Newcastle United in January 2023 and penned a bumper contract extension last October.

Anthony Gordon has insisted he still has unfinished business at Newcastle United and is “settled” at the club.

Signed in January 2023, the winger has become a staple of Newcastle’s success in recent seasons. Eddie Howe has developed Gordon from an erratic wideman to an England international, although his performances have dipped in recent months.

The 23-year-old has not registered a goal or assist in 19 Premier League games and was hooked with a suspected hip injury last night. Howe confirmed to reporters following the Athletic Bilbao clash that Gordon suffered a recurrence of a problem from earlier this year.

Anthony Gordon interest

Various reports have linked Gordon with boyhood club Liverpool since he made his England bow almost two years ago. A contract extension penned last October negated the noise for a while but the idea resurfaced when Luis Diaz left Anfield in August.

Ultimately, Liverpool poached another star from Newcastle, Alexander Isak, and the Gordon talk subsided once again. In a damning transfer message to potential suitors, he has now vowed there is a lot more for him to achieve at St James’ Park.

‘I want more’ - Anthony Gordon

“I’d say I’m really comfortable around the place, comfortable around the city,” Gordon told the matchday programme. “I’m settled, my little boy goes to nursery. That side of life is really settled, but as a footballer I’ll never be settled. I’ll never feel content with where I’m at. I’ll always want more, like I said before. I’ll always feel like I can do more.

“I’ve had a good start to my Newcastle career, but I want more. I want to be better than I have been for the last two years. I want to achieve more here. I want to win more trophies here (and) play consistently in the Champions League. I’m really settled as a person, a human being off the field. But on the field I’ve got so much more to do here.

“Individually, when you feel settled off the pitch, you automatically become more free on it which ultimately brings the best out of you. I feel like I’m in that position now. The structure of the club, the manager we’ve got, the owners and the investment they’ve put into the squad this year, it gives us all a reason to be successful.”

Eddie Howe gives Anthony Gordon injury update

Howe provided a worrying injury update on Gordon ahead of this weekend’s trip to Brentford. He said: "I've not spoke to him and I haven't really had a full rundown from the medical team. It seems like a reoccurrence of his hip injury that has been plaguing him in recent weeks. We'll assess that and see what damage is there."
