Gary McAllister knows what it takes to be a successful midfielder for Leeds.
The man from Motherwell made 283 appearances for the Whites from 1990 to 1996, helping Leeds win the First Division title in 1992 and the FA Charity Shield that same year.
McAllister has now delivered his assessment on another central midfielder in Anton Stach – praising the Germany international for his start to life at Elland Road.

The 60-year-old was no stranger to a goal from distance in his playing days, and he admires the fact the Leeds No.18 is willing to have a go from range.
McAllister told Leeds Live: “Stach’s another player. The little thing that’s caught my eye is his willingness to maybe jump out the middle of the park and have a crack at the goal. He’s got a few shots away, so that’s rare.
“Talking about set pieces, defending set pieces and attacking set pieces… we did sign up a few players of six foot plus, so I think he’s going to be instrumental.”
Stach, who McAllister also praised after his debut, has shown a selflessness to his game too when jumping out of midfield to drive forward, as fans saw when he laid on an assist for Noah Okafor in the 3-1 win at Wolves.

That same game also displayed how effective the German can be when shooting from distance, as he whipped a devilish free-kick beyond Jose Sa and into the top corner.
