Graham Potter has revealed that Alexander Isak is 'not ready' to start consecutive matches following a recent groin problem but remains optimistic he can return to action for Liverpool against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Reds striker has been sidelined for the Magpies' last four fixtures since hobbling off at the interval during their triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt. Liverpool endured successive defeats against Brentford and Crystal Palace before bouncing back with eye-catching wins over Aston Villa and Real Madrid in the forward's absence.
But despite his recent spell on the treatment table, Isak was named in the Sweden squad for the forthcoming November international window.
And his new international boss, Potter, has now provided an update on the forward as he justified his selection, reports the Liverpool Echo.
"They (Isak and Lucas Bergvall) are available. We will see this weekend," Potter said. "But Alex is not ready to play 90 minutes in two games in four days.
"But he is available and I look forward to meeting him.
"We'll see this weekend. Hopefully he can play against Manchester City (on Sunday) and be with us in Malaga."

Sweden face Switzerland on Saturday, November 15 before welcoming Slovenia three days later in their concluding two qualifiers ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
They currently languish at the foot of Group B, having collected just a single point from their opening four encounters, with previous boss Jon Dahl Tomasson departing his role last month following three consecutive defeats.
Liverpool are set to face Man City on Sunday in their last match before the November international break, with Reds boss Arne Slot previously hinting that Isak could be back from injury at the Etihad.
However, ahead of his team's showdown with Real Madrid, the Dutch coach admitted that the forward would not be fit enough to start.
"With Alex, we have to wait and see," he stated. "Definitely not starting on Sunday but maybe involved in the squad.

"He is still not training with the team so we have to wait and see."
Slot will provide a further update on Isak on Friday morning during his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool's journey to Man City.
Isak has featured in eight games for Liverpool, scoring a goal and providing an assist, since his record-breaking £125m transfer deadline day move.
However, he has found it difficult to display his top form due to a disrupted pre-season which saw him strike and train alone in an attempt to secure a departure from his former club Newcastle United.
