'After an official approach...' - John Percy has just shared huge Rob Edwards to Wolves twist…

Middlesbrough have rebuffed Wolves' approach to poach head coach Rob Edwards.

The Premier League side are looking for a new head coach following the decision to sack Vitor Pereira after their Premier League defeat to Fulham at the weekend. That result means that the midlands side have just two points this term and are rooted firmly to the bottom of the table.

GIVEMESPORT sources previously confirmed that Edwards was one of the candidates to take over from Pereira at Molineux, with the Middlesbrough manager having a release clause in his contract.

Wolves reporter Liam Keen has reported that Edwards is a frontrunner for the job, with The Telegraph's Midlands Reporter John Percy reporting that an approach was set to be made. That approach has now been made with a response being swiftly returned.

Following Wolves' approach for Edwards, Middlesbrough wasted little time in responding to the enquiry, according to The Telegraph's Midlands Reporter John Percy.

Reporting early on Tuesday afternoon, Percy wrote: Excl: #Wolves to make formal approach for Middlesbrough head coach Rob Edwards today. Former Wolves defender and academy coach is the No. 1 target to replace Vitor Pereira with an official move expected this afternoon."

Just a few hours later, Percy reshared his post with a new update.

Taking to X, Percy's update said: "Update: Middlesbrough have refused #Wolves permission to hold talks with Rob Edwards, after an official approach was made this afternoon. #Boro adamant he will not be leaving the club."

While Middlesbrough's stance is strong, it remains to be seen whether that decision will change in the hours ahead.

Wolves are desperate to get a new head coach on board and ideally want the appointment wrapped up before this weekend's Premier League clash with Chelsea.

For Middlesbrough, they'll be keen to ensure that Edwards remains in the dugout as they host Birmingham City at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

The Teessiders have enjoyed an excellent start to the season and sit third in the EFL Championship with 26 points from 14 games. Winning seven and losing just twice, the club will be determined to keep hold of the head coach who has restored the positive feeling around the club.
