Liverpool forward returns to training after being stretchered off in game

Arne Slot has halted the worst run of his Liverpool tenure with back-to-back victories over Aston Villa and Real Madrid at Anfield.

The Dutchman now returns to the drawing board as he plots a way past Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.

A pulsating win and statement performance against the 15-time European champions should have Slot and his players travelling in a buoyant mood as they aim to secure a third successive victory over Pep Guardiola’s side.

Meanwhile, in the women’s game, Liverpool FC Women welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the St Helens Stadium in Barclays Women’s Super League action on Sunday.

Ahead of the fixture, manager Gareth Taylor provided a team news update during his pre-match press conference.

Mia Enderby has returned to training after being stretchered off in last weekend’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 20-year-old appeared to land awkwardly on her neck following an aerial challenge and was taken from the field on a stretcher, leading to 22 minutes of stoppage time.

Enderby has featured in all six of Liverpool’s WSL matches this season and was named in the starting lineup against Spurs.

Taylor said on Thursday afternoon: “She’s [Enderby] back in training. She’s been training the last couple of days so Mia is back with us.

“I think it was more a precaution, it probably looked a lot worse than actually what it was, but with those types – when there’s a head or neck injury involved – it’s really important to make sure that we go through the necessary processes and checks.

“But Mia is fine, she’s back in with us so that’s a bonus.”

Her return will be a welcome boost for the Reds as they look to bounce back with a strong performance against the Seagulls.
