PHILADELPHIA — Nick Sirianni and the Eagles know Micah Parsons well. They understand better than most how good Parsons is after facing the former Cowboys star in the NFC East.
But Monday night will be the first time the Eagles have to deal with Parsons as a member of the Packers — and Sirianni knows it’s going to be a serious challenge.
“Micah Parsons is a phenomenal football player that can hurt you in many different ways. He just creates a lot of disruption,” Sirianni said Thursday at the NovaCare Complex. “... So much respect for the player and who he is. Can’t say enough good things about him.”
Parsons, the former Penn State star and Harrisburg native, has been borderline unblockable since he entered the league in 2021. Parsons racked up 52 1/2 sacks in four seasons in Dallas en route to earning All-Pro status in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Parsons has been particularly good against the Eagles in his career. The 2021 first-rounder has five sacks in seven games vs. Philadelphia. Dallas had a 3-4 record in those games.
But now, Parsons is with the Packers, a far better team than the Cowboys. Dallas stunningly dealt Parsons in August, giving the NFC North contenders even more talent.
“Thankfully, we only play him once a year,” Sirianni said with a smile. “Well, we played Green Bay twice last year. So we’ll see how that goes.”
The Eagles beat the Packers twice last season: 34-29 in Week 1 in Brazil and 22-10 in the wild card round of the NFC playoffs. And there’s a real possibility that happens again this year — either in the wild card round or later in the postseason.
The Eagles (+370) are the betting favorites to win the NFC and go to the Super Bowl, per FanDuel. Behind them are the Lions (+440), Rams (+450) and Packers (+550).
Parsons has been a major factor in Green Bay’s 5-2-1 start to the season. The 26-year-old has 43 quarterback pressures, which ranks fifth among NFL edge rushers, per Pro Football Focus. Parsons also has 6 1/2 sacks in eight games.
In order to win on Monday night in Green Bay, the Eagles will be trying to keep that sack number where it is.
“He’s disruptive in everything he does,” Sirianni said. “They’re doing a good job of moving him around, putting him in different spots so you have to account for where he is. But it’s hard to account for where he is because he’s moving around so much. Lot of respect for their defensive coaches and what they’ve been doing there. But I can’t say enough good things about him. He’s really good.”
