Devin Booker Joins Rare Company With Unprecedented Start

Devin Booker has been handed the keys to the Phoenix Suns, and he seems completely comfortable with that.

He has started the 2025-26 season in a noteworthy and historic fashion.

Booker is averaging 31.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 7.0 assists across his first eight games.

As noted by the Suns, only four players in league history have started their first eight games with an average of 30+ points and 5+ assists on a 50+ field goal percentage and 40+ three-point percentage.

Those players are Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Stephen Curry (twice), and now Booker.

Players in NBA history thru their first 8 games of a season with:

30+ PPG

5+ APG

50+ FG%

40+ 3FG%

This is what fans wanted from Booker, and what many expected.

The Suns just lost two of the biggest stars in the league when both Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal left the team in the summer.

And while that obviously hurts Phoenix in many ways, it opens the door for Booker.

This is now 100 percent his team again, and he is obviously the Suns’ most important player.

He is touching the ball a lot more often and making the most of it.

The team is currently 3-5, and fans know they will have to fight hard all year long, even to make the play-in tournament.

This season might not end in a playoff run, but it could lead to the best numbers of Booker’s career.

Numbers-wise, Booker’s previous best season was back in 2022-23 when he posted 27.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.

For the last few years, he has taken a backseat to his team’s grand plans and the inclusion of Durant and Beal.

But those two are now gone, and Booker is in charge.
