Anthony Gordon now says he has lots of unfinished business at Newcastle United

**Anthony Gordon is coming in for a lot of stick right now from Newcastle United fans and even journalists who cover the club.**

Luke Edwards didn't hold back when criticising the England star recently, and we couldn't put up any form of defence against what he said.

Gordon has become one of Newcastle's most frustrating figures because on his day, there's nobody better going down that left wing, but his days are becoming too few and way too far between.

We remember the Anthony Gordon of two seasons ago; he was consistent and unplayable. He created a threat in every game he played in, but these days it seems like it has to be some form of occasion for him to get motivated.

Anthony Gordon wants more success at Newcastle

----------------------------------------------

That's what makes his programme notes last night (h/t [Newcastle World](https://www.newcastleworld.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/newcastle-united-news-anthony-gordon-liverpool-5390395)) all the more annoying. In them, Anthony Gordon spoke of how he has so much he wants to do at Newcastle, yet.

> “I’m settled, my little boy goes to nursery. That side of life is really settled, but as a footballer, I’ll never be settled. I’ll never feel content with where I’m at. I’ll always want more, like I said before. I’ll always feel like I can do more.“I’ve had a good start to my Newcastle career, but I want more. I want to be better than I have been for the last two years. I want to achieve more here. I want to win more trophies here (and) play consistently in the Champions League. I’m really settled as a person, a human being off the field. But on the field, I’ve got so much more to do here.

>

> “Individually, when you feel settled off the pitch, you automatically become more free on it which ultimately brings the best out of you. I feel like I’m in that position now. The structure of the club, the manager we’ve got, the owners and the investment they’ve put into the squad this year, it gives us all a reason to be successful.”

Why doesn't he play as well as he speaks?

-----------------------------------------

If you want more trophies and you want to play consistently in the Champions League, then you need to start showing up for the games that get you there, not just playing your best when you get there.

We're convinced there must be a reason for Gordon's dip in form, and we'll get some allowance for the fact he's carrying that hip injury, but we'd rather players were just honest, and when they know they aren't 100%, they say so.

Playing your strongest XI isn't your strongest XI when one of them is unfit, is it? That one's on Eddie Howe.
