Liverpool and Manchester City could both be without a number of key players for their Premier League clash this weekend.
Liverpool are preparing for one of their biggest games of the season as they travel to face Manchester City on Sunday.
The Reds have rediscovered their form after a difficult spell that saw them lose six of seven matches across all competitions, including four consecutive Premier League defeats.
Concerns had grown over Arne Slot’s side and their ability to challenge for major honours this season.
However, a 2-0 win over Aston Villa was followed by a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Real Madrid, proving that Liverpool remain capable of competing with Europe’s elite.
Despite their recent resurgence, that poor run has left the Reds seven points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.
A significant turnaround will be needed if they are to defend their title, and Sunday’s trip to the Etihad feels like a must-win for both sides.
Alexander Isak has missed the past three matches due to a groin issue.
Although the striker has been called up to Sweden’s squad for the upcoming international break, it remains uncertain whether he will be fit to face City.
Alisson Becker has already been ruled out of the game with a hamstring injury and has not been included in Brazil’s latest squad.
Jeremie Frimpong remains sidelined with a hamstring problem, while summer signing Giovanni Leoni will not feature again this season after suffering an ACL injury on his debut in September.
For Manchester City, Mateo Kovacic has sustained a recurrence of a foot problem and may require surgery, according to reports.
Rodri was also absent for City’s 4-1 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night, with Pep Guardiola providing an update on his condition before the match.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Guardiola said: “He does not feel perfect so that is why he do not take the risk.
“He will comeback, this is a little setback.
“He needs a bit more time to feel good and play football.
“It does not matter if he plays good or bad knowing that he is fine and will not be out for a while.”
