PHILADELPHIA — If Eagles fans were worried about Saquon Barkley’s injury status for Monday’s game against the Packers, fear not.
Barkley was on the practice field on Thursday at the NovaCare Complex, which is a good sign for the star running back’s status for “Monday Night Football.”
Barkley suffered a groin injury in the second half of the Eagles’ 38-20 win over the Giants on Oct. 26 at Lincoln Financial Field. Barkley did not return to action after sustaining the injury.
Barkley, who had his breakout performance of the season (150 yards, TD), pulled up with a limp after a 28-yard run on the last play of the third quarter. He spoke to the training staff, was evaluated in the blue medical tent and watched the rest of the game from the sideline.
“I wasn’t worried about it,” Barkley said when asked about the injury postgame. “I’ve dealt with this before. Nothing crazy. It’s a long season.”
Barkley later said he “went out swinging” when asked if he tried to re-enter the contest. The Eagles went up 31-13 a few plays into the fourth quarter, and Tank Bigsby (104 yards) was running well enough to close out the NFC East rivalry game.
The Eagles will certainly need Barkley on Monday against Micah Parsons and the Packers. The Eagles (6-2) and the Packers (5-2-1) are arguably the two best teams in the NFC. Philadelphia is a slight 2 1/2-point betting underdog at Lambeau Field, per FanDuel.
Barkley had big performances in two wins over Green Bay last season. Barkley had 109 rushing yards and an 18-yard touchdown catch in his Week 1 debut in Brazil. In the NFC Wild Card round victory, Barkley rushed for 119 yards.
