Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was reportedly blocked from going into the away end at the Etihad Stadium ahead of the match between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund. The Reds icon was at Anfield on Tuesday night, watching his old team beat Real Madrid 1-0 in the Champions League.

Just a day later, Carragher was in Manchester to cover City's clash with Dortmund for CBS Sports in the fourth league phase match of the Champions League. The 47-year-old was seen walking towards the Etihad with Dortmund fans ahead of Wednesday night's kick-off.

This isn't the first time Carragher has mingled with fans of the Bundesliga club during a Champions League match. He was spotted in Signal Iduna Park's famous 'Yellow Wall' for Dortmund's semi-final match against Paris Saint-Germain back in 2024, where he celebrated with the German club's supporters.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Carragher hoped to join Dortmund fans in the away end at the Etihad on Wednesday evening but was denied entry. It's reported that both UEFA and City had reasons for refusing him entry.

Neither City nor UEFA chose to comment on the matter, but the report suggests UEFA felt Carragher's press credentials weren't sufficient to allow him into the away end. City were also reportedly wary about letting a former Liverpool player into the away end to support Dortmund.

City secured a commanding 4-1 victory with goals from Phil Foden (two), Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki ahead of Sunday's crucial Premier League encounter with Liverpool. The Reds go into the game on the back of consecutive wins over Real Madrid and Aston Villa over the last week.

Carragher was subsequently spotted pitchside with fellow CBS Sports pundit Peter Schmeichel, discussing his journey to the Etihad Stadium with Dortmund's travelling supporters.

"It's been fantastic, we had a great walk in from Manchester city centre to the ground," Carragher told CBS Sports before kick-off on Wednesday night.

"They're enjoying themselves, they're looking forward to the game and they're a little bit worried about Erling Haaland.

"But they've got their own man up front in (Serhou) Guirassy, who we think might be able to cause a problem or two. They're in full flight, and hopefully by the end of the game they're going to really enjoy themselves, and I might join them."
