Rajon Rondo Dishes On New Role With Doc Rivers’ Bucks Coaching Staff

The Boston Celtics have fought their way to a 4-5 start in the 2025-26 NBA season, which isn’t all that bad considering how much talent they have lost over the past couple of months. Towards the top of the Eastern Conference is the Milwaukee Bucks, who have a pair of familiar faces in Doc Rivers and Rajon Rondo on their coaching staff. While Rivers’ tenure with the Bucks hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing, it has given him an opportunity to work with Rondo again after he helped turn him into an All-Star point guard during his playing career with the Celtics. Now that he’s retired, Rondo has gotten involved in coaching, and it shouldn’t be much of a surprise to see he’s latched on with Rivers in Milwaukee. When discussing his role with the Bucks, Rondo revealed that he’s taken on some bigger responsibilities in his second year with the team. “Last year, I was more in a consulting role. This year, the name has changed, I think it’s called a coaching associate,” Rondo said on the “Thanalysis Show.” “I’m around more, and I’m able to be on the bench this year. I’m able to talk to the guys, and my biggest strength is to be able to help the guys (make) in-game adjustments on the fly.” The player-to-coach pipeline is a popular one in the NBA, and it looks like Rondo is the latest to follow that path. As a point guard during his time as a player, Rondo always seemed to know where all ten players were on the court, so his knowledge of the game of basketball should help him as he takes on more responsibility for Rivers and the Bucks. The C’s will look to push their record back to .500 by earning a win against the Orlando Magic on Friday night.
