Bucks Kevin Porter Jr. undergoes surgery, recovery timeline set at four weeks

Milwaukee Bucks guard Kevin Porter Jr. recently underwent successful surgery on November 3 to repair a right knee injury he suffered during return-to-play training on October 30. The team shared the update on its official X account, noting that Porter is projected to be sidelined for around four more weeks as he works his way back to full strength.

Porter has missed several games since spraining his ankle in the opening quarter of Milwaukee’s season debut win against the Washington Wizards. While preparing for a comeback, he suffered a knee injury during a return-to-play workout last week.

The Milwaukee Bucks earlier revealed that guard Porter Jr. is expected to miss about a month after suffering a right meniscus injury that required a minor orthopedic procedure. The operation was performed by Dr. Tom Hackett at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. The team confirmed the update through an official statement on its X (formerly Twitter) account.

“Kevin Porter Jr. underwent successful surgery on Nov. 3 to address the right knee meniscus injury suffered during his return-to-play training on Oct. 30. The procedure was performed by Dr. Tom Hackett at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, CO. Porter Jr. is expected to be sidelined for approximately four weeks. Further updates will be provided as necessary.”

The 25-year-old guard made his first start since re-signing with Milwaukee on a two-year contract in the offseason but exited after only nine minutes of play. A former first-round pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Porter’s career has been marked by moments of brilliance on the court as well as turbulence away from it.

Porter returned to the NBA last season after sitting out the entire 2023–24 campaign following a domestic abuse incident that prompted an NBA investigation. After a midseason trade to Milwaukee, he performed strongly, averaging 11.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 19.9 minutes per game while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field and 41 percent from beyond the arc.
