Former NFL star Antonio Brown is in custody in the United States and likely faces a charge of attempted murder after being extradited from Dubai, according to a new report.
Brown, 37, was brought back to New York City by federal agents, per TMZ, and is likely heading to South Florida, where he was accused of attempting to shoot and kill a man during an Adin Ross boxing match last spring.
"AB will likely be held at the Miami-Dade Department of Corrections and charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon," TMZ wrote.
Brown in trouble over May incident
Brown, who last played in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 2021 season, was arrested following a brawl at an event hosted by Ross, a noteworthy streamer, in Miami back in May.
Just after midnight on May 17, a fight broke out, with videos from the scene appearing to show Brown getting into a physical altercation with another man. Gunshots can later be heard on tape.
Zül-Qarnaįn Nantambu, the alleged victim, told TMZ at the time he was the one involved in the scuffle with Brown. Nantambu also claims Brown fired his gun during the conflict.
Brown, who said on a later stream with Ross that "CTE got me blacked out" and he didn't know what happened, has maintained that he was merely acting in self-defense and prevent being robbed.
"Regarding the boxing event that happened last night. I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me," Brown tweeted on May 17. "Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED. I will be talking to my legal council and attorneys on pressing charges on the individuals that jumped me. I will keep you all posted step-by-step on the process."
Brown has had numerous brushes with the law over the last several years, and this latest one seems pretty serious. We'll keep you updated on the latest details once the former All-Pro is returned to the Sunshine State.
