The Boston Celtics have gotten off to a 4-5 start to the 2025-26 campaign, and after losing a ton of talent over the offseason, all eyes are on head coach Joe Mazzulla. According to star guard Derrick White, it sounds like Mazzulla is finding new ways to buck the norm with his unique coaching tactics this year. Ever since taking over as Boston’s head coach, Mazzulla’s unique strategies have drawn a lot of attention across the league. Whether it be his deadpan responses to questions from the media or his desire to get his team to take as many three-point shots as possible, Mazzulla always finds ways to mix things up. He seems to be taking things to another level this season, though. White recently revealed that during a drill at one of the team’s practices, instead of playing music, Mazzulla had noises of a machine gun being fired playing over the speakers at the team’s practice facility. “Joe’s like, ‘Play the music,’ and next thing you know, it’s just machine guns going off. I’m like, ‘What is going on?'” White said on his “White Noise Podcast.” “The entire time we did this drill, the machine guns were going off nonstop, and that’s kind of how we started practice.” Mazzulla likes to find different ways to motivate his players, but this certainly has to be a first. Chances are, Mazzulla is trying to send a message to his team that they should always be prepared to battle on every single possession. After blowing out the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night, Boston will look to continue its winning ways on Friday night when it takes on the Orlando Magic.
