Giannis Antetokounmpo has been on an absolute tear through the Milwaukee Bucks‘ first eight games. With the Bucks sitting at 5-3, he’s putting up 32.3 points per game, the third-highest mark in the league, along with 12.6 rebounds, which ranks fifth. He’s also averaging 6.3 assists, good for 18th in the NBA, while shooting an incredible 67.7 percent from the field, the fourth-best in the league.

Antetokounmpo has already built a strong case for his third MVP award through seven games, as he continues to dominate both ends of the floor. He missed one game against the Golden State Warriors but still looks every bit like the league’s best player. His current and former teammates are convinced he’s on track to claim another MVP title.

After the Greek Freak powered the Bucks to a win over the Pacers with 33 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists, his former teammate Patrick Beverley voiced his admiration on social media. “Man Give Greek MVP right now” Beverley wrote, flooding his post with fire and basketball emojis to emphasize the message.

Antetokounmpo made his early MVP case with a buzzer-beater against the Pacers. With 11 seconds remaining, he controlled the ball at the top of the key, navigated into midrange, and knocked down a 15-foot fadeaway to secure the victory.
ESPN analyst Marc Spears has lauded Giannis Antetokounmpo’s dominant start to the 2025-26 season, even comparing him to Wilt Chamberlain, while raising doubts about whether the superstar can maintain this high level of play over an entire season.

“Whether it was Khris Middleton or Dame, he’s always had that No.2 guy to go with him. He doesn’t have it now, so he’s doing Wilt things. These are Wilt Chamberlain-type numbers. I do wonder if it’s sustainable. But he’s actually playing two less minutes than he did a season ago. It’s absolutely incredible,” Spears commented.
It remains uncertain whether Giannis Antetokounmpo can sustain this level of play for an entire season, but the Bucks will look to continue their strong start when they host the Chicago Bulls at Fiserv Forum on Friday. The game marks the first regular-season meeting between the I-94 rivals and also serves as the opening NBA Cup East Group C pool play matchup of the year for both teams.
