Antonio Brown is back in the United States to face an attempted murder charge.
The former star NFL receiver, whose career briefly stopped in New England, was extradited from the Middle East. According to the Miami Herald, the 37-year-old is expected to stand trial for a shooting outside a boxing event in South Florida. A warrant was first issued for his arrest in June.
According to the Miami Herald:
“Brown’s Instagram posts show he has been in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the last few months. When the warrant was issued for the Miami native’s arrest in June, he had an attorney who secured him a $10,000 bond, including house arrest. But Brown never turned himself in.”
Videos of the incident circulated on social media that appear to show Brown in a fight with multiple people. He was seen apparently holding a black pistol as he pursued someone. Shots could be heard off camera shortly thereafter.
According to the warrant obtained by The Washington Post, the police had video footage from the night of the altercation that shows Brown punching a man, which “sparked a melee.” The footage also allegedly shows Brown taking a gun from a security office before running toward the man he punched.
At his peak, Brown was one of the best receivers in the NFL. He twice led the NFL in catches and receiving yards with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
But he began behaving erratically late in his time with the Steelers. He was traded to the Raiders in 2019, but clashed with management and briefly refused to play in an NFL-regulation helmet.
After the Raiders released him, the Patriots signed Brown. His time in New England spanned one game and 11 days. The Patriots released him after allegations of sexual assault, sexual misconduct and rape all surfaced shortly after he signed.
He developed a friendship with Tom Brady during his short stint in Foxborough and eventually followed him to Tampa before the two had a falling out.
