The future of South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers has been one of the more intriguing stories for the program this season. Let’s take a deeper dive into what one college football analyst is hearing about his future beyond the 2025 season.

During The McShay Show, college football analyst Todd McShay discussed the future of South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers and how he may not enter the 2026 NFL Draft.

“There’s a strong opinion in NFL scouting circles. He will be back in school next year. That he absolutely needs to for his development to be ready when called upon as a first-round draft pick… Everyone is supporting the concept of he needs another year of college. There are people in his camp that are in agreement, from what I’m told.”

However, that is not where the discussion stopped. McShay would continue and discuss that Sellers returning would not mean he is staying with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Instead, there is talk that the Miami Hurricanes could be where he suits up next season.

“I’m not here to say there’s collusion. I promise you, no one said a word. But one person started putting the dots together. There is a place in South Florida where they’ve done a really nice job of hand-picking quarterbacks the last two years and they’ve seen ascensions in their game… Miami is a program I would be very cautious of if I’m Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks program of trying to come in with an offer that’s very difficult to refuse.”

What he is referencing is Cam Ward and Carson Beck transferring into the Hurricanes program and getting some additional success for their draft spots. Ward was the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft while Beck is still with the program.

LaNorris Sellers has shown glimpses of success, but has struggled as a passer at times as well. So far this season, he has completed 124-of-201 (61.7%) of his passes for 1,536 yards with seven passing touchdowns to five interceptions through the air and 117 rushing attempts for 158 yards (1.4 yards per carry) with three rushing touchdowns.

It will be interesting to see what the future for Sellers looks like as the redshirt sophomore could go down the path McShay has discussed. There is also a chance that he either enters the NFL Draft or remains with the Gamecocks for the 2026 season.
