Why Packers face must-win situation vs. Eagles for playoff positioning

The Packers gave themselves little margin for error after losing Sunday’s game to the Carolina Panthers.

When Rico Dowdle ran wild, and Jordan Love and Green Bay’s offense sputtered, it took the Packers from the catbird’s seat in a hyper-competitive NFC North division, to scrambling to hold on for their postseason lives.

Ahead of Monday night’s game against the Eagles, Week 10 becomes as close to a must-win situation as a team will face at this juncture of the season.

According to NFL Media’s playoff projections, the Packers enter Monday night against Philadelphia as the No. 4 seed in the NFC, with an 82 percent chance of making the playoffs.

However, with every team in the division posting at least a .500 record, the Packers’ postseason chances would dip to just a 73 percent chance of making the playoffs, should they lose.

Things aren’t going to get much easier for the Packers, either.

With eight games remaining, Green Bay has the fourth-most difficult remaining schedule in the league with opponents boasting a .554 winning percentage.

After Monday night, Green Bay still has to face the Denver Broncos, the Detroit Lions, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Minnesota Vikings. So, if Green Bay is going to make a run to the playoffs, after stumbling against the Panthers, it’s going to have to start with a win against the Eagles.
