Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was in for an unexpected surprise upon arriving at his teammate’s house for a mid-week movie night.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Rodgers — who took a surprising stance following the Steelers’ latest win over the Indianapolis Colts — shared that he was recently invited to Cam Heyward’s house for what he thought was a team-bonding experience.

Once he arrived at the defensive lineman’s home, however, the four-time MVP quickly realized that he was the only member of the Steelers in attendance to watch Tron: Ares.

“Cam invited me to a movie night a while back and said it was a big team function. I showed up, I was the only player there,” Rodgers recalled. “On a Tuesday night, too, which is like, we’ve got an early Wednesday morning, the quarterbacks, with our meeting with Mike.

“So I was like, ‘Fine, I love team-bonding, chemistry stuff.’ I show up, I see him and his son. … I’m like, ‘Alright, cool.’
“I’m looking around, I go, ‘Where’s everybody at?’ So then he texted me a couple of nights ago and said there was something on Monday night. And I said, ‘Is this gonna be like the last one?'”
Heyward shed light on what caused the sparse turnout on the heels of Thursday’s practice, revealing that friends, neighbors, and other players were extended invites but couldn’t make it.
“I invited everybody,” he said. “It was just [that] he showed up. He didn’t show up for the next one, but other players did.

“I find movies throughout the year that guys wanna see, and they come when they can. … It kinda threw him for a loop.”
As the only two players on the Steelers who were born in the 1980s, Rodgers and Heyward’s opinions hold weight inside the locker room. “I really appreciate his leadership,” the signal-caller said. “He’s a guy who knows how to use his voice at the right times. His play has been stellar.
“He’s a steady guy. I like to razz him from time to time because I’m a little more, maybe chipper, would you say, in the mornings than he is. But I’m really fortunate to play with Cam Heyward.”
Though Rodgers and Heyward have developed a strong bond since becoming teammates, their relationship got off to a rocky start.

Back in March, Heyward publicly called out Rodgers for taking his time before deciding whether or not he wanted to play for the Steelers. “Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler, or you don’t,” he said. “It’s that simple.”
Yet once Rodgers inked a one-year, $13.65 million contract back in June, Heyward asserted that the 41-year-old has been completely bought in.

“He’s always been about the team, and whatever’s misconstrued outside of there, it’s been fun to really just get to know him,” Heyward said. “He’s been bought in since he got here. We joke off the field, but we do challenge each other.
“We try to make sure … we have the right pulse of the team. I think it’s just about communicating and making sure we can go forward.”
