Former Packers CB Jaire Alexander addresses what happened in Baltimore before Eagles trade

The Philadelphia Eagles have loaded up on their secondary over the past week, with trades for defensive backs Jaire Alexander and Michael Carter II. Alexander, who spent most of his career thus far in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, was traded by the Baltimore Ravens to the Eagles along with a 2027 seventh-rounder for a 2026 sixth-rounder.

Meanwhile, Carter was sent to Philly by the New York Jets together with a seventh-rounder in 2027 for a 2026 sixth-rounder and wide receiver John Metchie

Alexander’s short stint with the Ravens left many scratching their heads. When Baltimore signed him in the summer, it was believed that he’d be a significant part of the team’s secondary, but he ultimately played in only two games, appearing in only 39 percent of defensive snaps. He recorded just five combined tackles in his time with Baltimore.

Apparently, Alexander, despite being a two-time Pro Bowler, couldn’t crack a regular role in Baltimore’s defense.

Former Packers CB Alexander clears the air on Baltimore situation

Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander (23) reacts after intercepting a pass during the first quarter of the wild card playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys Sunday, January 14, 2024 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

AThe 28-year-old Alexander recently opened up about what led to his limited playing time with the Ravens.

Via Zach Berman of The Athletic:

Jaire Alexander said he’s healthy and explained the Baltimore situation as other players getting a chance to play. He said this has been in the works for awhile. He didn’t view it as a chance to prove to others he’s the same player as much as showing what he can do. He’s prideful, and as he noted, still in prime of his career.

Now with the Eagles, it’s interesting to see whether the reigning Super Bowl champions will give him ample time to see action on the field. Even more interesting perhaps is his outlook for Philadelphia’s Week 10 clash against his former team, as the Eagles take on the Packers at Lambeau Field this coming Monday.

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Joshua Palmer gets held by Alexander while trying to catch the pass during the second half of their game against the Baltimore Ravens at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park on Sept. 7, 2025. The Ravens received a penalty for the pass interference.
