Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney and ex-Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho have faced each other many times.
However, their paths did not only cross at club level in the Premier League and Champions League.
Rooney and Carvalho also met at the 2006 World Cup when England took on Portugal in the quarter-finals of the competition.
It was a game that had some huge talking points, including one moment involving the United and Chelsea legends.

Wayne Rooney was ‘gobsmacked’ after red card for Ricardo Carvalho incident
Rooney was sent off for what the referee deemed as an intentional stamp on Carvalho, something that the retired England international refuted.
“I want to say absolutely categorically that I did not intentionally put my foot down on Carvalho,” Rooney said via BBC Sport after the game.
He also went on to add: “When the referee produced the red card I was amazed — gobsmacked.”
Since retiring, Rooney has had a go at football management and punditry, while he has also done quite a few interviews lately.
In one of them, Rooney named Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer in his dream five-a-side team of Premier League players.
The latter has not played too much football this season because of injury but should be back soon. Enzo Maresca is hopeful that Palmer returns in time for Chelsea’s Champions League tie against Barcelona at the end of the month.

Wayne Rooney still appreciates Ricardo Carvalho
After all these years, there is no bad blood between Rooney and Carvalho. In fact, Rooney recently praised Carvalho as he named him as one of the Champions League’s greatest ever defenders.
The Portugal legend is exactly the kind of player Maresca could do with right now. Central defence has been a real issue for him this season.
Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile are both currently out injured, while Tosin Adarabioyo’s form has been a cause for concern.
It would not hurt to have a forward like Rooney available either. Joao Pedro scored Chelsea’s winner against Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday, but that was only his third Premier League goal of the campaign.
