Report: Liverpool still have chance to sign Luis Diaz replacement as contract expectation emerges

Luis Diaz still hasn’t been replaced at Liverpool, but that could all be about to change.

Arne Slot’s attack has been one of his main problems this season, with only Hugo Ekitike living up to expectations.

Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo have been the Reds’ other main starters in attack, but to be honest, it feels like they should’ve been performing a lot better.

Salah has been a fraction of his former self, and Gakpo can only seem to get the ball into the back of the net after three or four attempts on goal.

This is why, throughout the entirety of the summer transfer window, it wasn’t surprising to see a new winger linked with an Anfield switch each week.

Although talk of a transfer has died down recently, there’s still a chance that one of their summer targets could end up joining.

Liverpool still believe that signing Kenan Yildiz is a possibility this season

Throughout most of the summer transfer window, links with Kenan Yildiz emerged from Anfield.

The attacker is a natural left-winger, but he seems to have been used as Juventus’ number 10 a fair few times already this season.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

This versatility, coupled with his keen eye for goal, are just two of the reasons why Liverpool were interested in signing him, with a new report from TEAMtalk sharing that they may still have a chance.

TEAMtalk’s report starts by saying that Liverpool are one of three ‘confirmed’ Premier League suitors for the Turkiye international, even though Juventus are expecting that he’ll stay.

Arsenal and Chelsea are the other interested parties, with each of the three teams ‘interested in pursuing’ him should the opportunity arise.

TEAMtalk outline that ‘this does seem possible’ at the moment, as the attacker wants a new contract.

At the moment, he earns around £25,000 per week, but since Jonathan David joined and is on £100,000 per week, he now wants a similar weekly wage to the Canadian.

Kenan Yildiz would be the perfect Luis Diaz replacement for Liverpool

Since Yildiz is still just 20 years old, there’s still plenty of time for him to grow into an even better player than he already is.

He’s played 13 times across all competitions for the Old Lady so far this season, and he’s managed to contribute to seven goals.

The attacker has been mostly used as a left-winger or a number 10 this term, which is why Yildiz would be the perfect replacement for Diaz.

The only senior left-winger Liverpool have available to them at the moment is Gakpo, and although Slot may like him as a player, it’s clear that he needs the odd break here and there.

This is why Yildiz would be perfect. He’d be able to share the role with the Dutchman and perhaps even learn a thing or two as the season goes on.

He may not be as fast as the Colombian, but the fact that he’d offer Liverpool another option on the left wing would be a massive help, especially if they want to retain the Premier League title this season.
