Leeds United want Premier League midfielder as Newcastle United and Manchester City cool…

Sheffield United, Leeds United and FA Cup - The YP FootballTalk Podcast

Leeds United have again been credited with interest in Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.

The 20-year-old seemed to have the world at his feet in 2024, playing a key role in the Manchester United side and breaking into the England set-up.

However, Mainoo has tumbled down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim and failed to make a single league start this term.

Appearances from the bench have been regular, although Mainoo will need regular starts if he is to force his way back into the England fold.

A move did not materialise, but CaughtOffside have claimed Leeds are among the clubs who want to sign Mainoo in the winter window.

The report has suggested Leeds showed interest in a loan deal in the summer but that it never reached an advanced stage.

Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have also been named as admirers, as have Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Newcastle United and Manchester City also featured in the linked clubs list, although it has been suggested they have cooled their interest.

Back in September, Manchester United icon Teddy Sheringham insisted Mainoo is the type of player Leeds should target.

He told The Yorkshire Post: "Yes [he is the type of player Leeds should target] - without a doubt. Not even six months ago, he was in the England set-up and people were raving about him. He can't be that bad a player.

“He just needs to get someone who loves the way he plays. This game is all about opinions and just because Amorim doesn't fancy him, it doesn't mean to say ]Daniel] Farke won't and get the best out of him.

"Put an arm around him and tell him how good he is, team him up with someone in midfield who accommodates him and all of a sudden, you've got a player back on your hands. If Leeds could get someone like that on loan, it would definitely be a plus point."
