Alexander Isak will return to Liverpool training on Friday ahead of the Reds clash against Manchester City. Arne Slot confirmed the Swedish striker will return to the fold but warned he will need time to reach his best.
Isak has endured a tough time since making a British record transfer to Anfield, seemingly suffering from his disruption in pre-season at Newcastle United. The striker did not participate in training with the Magpies before completing his move.
The 26-year-old h obbled off in Liverpool's win over Eintracht Frankfurt and has been sidelined for four fixtures as a result. Isak was named in Graham Potter's Sweden squad for the international break, however.
In his press conference earlier this week, Slot already suggested that Isak would not be in a position to start against City on Sunday. The Dutchman has now provided further clarity on his charge's return.
Speaking on Friday, Slot said: "He will train for the first time today with the team again, after being three weeks out.
"I know that I said three weeks ago that his pre-season has ended so now it's time for us to see where he is. But I have to come back to those words, because if you are three weeks only with the rehab, that doesn't bring you back to the levels he was three weeks ago.
"Although, our rehab team is doing an incredible job. But you cannot compare rehab with games of football or training sessions with the team. As much as we try to replicate it, that's simply not possible. So, again I have to say, give him some time."
Slot also provided an update on Scotland international Andy Robertson. The full back was replaced in the dying moments of Liverpool's win over Real Madrid.

Liverpool's head coach attempted to offer the experienced defender some late rest after a busy period. Robertson's condition for City will be monitored.
"Robbo started three games in seven days as he started vs Palace," Slot explained. "I had to take him off towards the end. I felt he was tired but we will wait to see where he is today."
"I was very pleased to see he was able to play almost 90 in his last game," Slot added. "Hard to play three games in seven days.

"It's so helpful for every individual if the team plays at its best which is what I think we did in the last few days. He has been calm on the ball and done his job defensively."
There was mixed news on the recoveries of Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong, too. Slot was asked whether they could return following the international break.
"Alisson for sure and I expect Jeremie back after the international break as well because we play from November until March!" said Slot.
"But I don't expect Jeremie to be fully fit for Forest, but with Alisson we expect this."
