Rob Edwards is expected to take his press conference as usual on Friday afternoon, with the Middlesbrough boss set to address his future at the club, as things stand.
Edwards has been extensively linked with the vacant post at his former club Wolves and has, on two occasions this week, failed to completely shut down the speculation. However, the Premier League side made an official approach to Boro on Thursday to speak to the head coach.
That development meant there were doubts Edwards would even host his usual pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s Championship clash with Birmingham City, despite the fact Boro rejected Wolves’ request. Teesside Live have been told it’s business as usual at Rockliffe and the press conference is, at this stage, still going ahead as planned at 1 pm on Friday afternoon.
As developments on Thursday showed, things can move quickly, but there has been a confidence at Boro throughout the week that Edwards remains committed to the club and will remain the head coach, where it will be hoped he can build on a positive start to the season, which sees Boro right in the promotion mix.
If it does go ahead, Edwards will be faced with a lot of questions on his future and will now surely have to address it far more clearly than he did both before and after the midweek draw at Leicester City on Tuesday evening. His failure to completely shut it down has caused concern for many supporters.

Wolves are said to have identified Edwards as their primary target to replace Vitor Pereira after talks with Gary O’Neil broke down. They sacked the Portuguese boss after failing to win any of their first ten Premier League games this season, and they sit adrift at the bottom of the table with just two points.
While Edwards has been advised by Simon Jordan to stick with Boro, calling Wolves a club in ‘managed decline’, the Boro boss has understandable emotional attachment to the Black Country club. As well as playing for them and starting his coaching career there, his family still lives local to the club also.
